Photo opportunities galore!

"Hawaii Movie Tours is a box office smash!"-Honolulu Star Bulletin-July, 2001

Our 4x4 fleet is equipped with surround sound and video monitors, all delivered digitally.

On September 1, 2004, we changed our 4x4 Tour. Below are the customer comments from our onboard comment log from that first tour.

"This was an awesome tour. Wish we would have done it at the beginning of our trip! Thank you!"-Brent & Kristin, Cheyenne, WY

"Great tour! We saw a lot more than we expected. Beautiful sights. We appreciated all the information about the local culture."-Keith & Jessica, Austin, TX

"Exactly what we'd hoped for our 1st day on the island. A lot of spots we'd never find ourselves and a good overview of the island."-Jeff, El Cajon, CA

This tour provides pick-up and drop-off at most East and Southside hotels. If you are staying on the North Shore, you can check in to our office at 8:15 AM.  The tour departs our office at 8:30 AM and will return between 2:00 and 2:30 PM, depending on traffic, etc. Our office is located at 4-885 Kuhio Highway in Kapaa, behind the Lemongrass Grill Restaurant and Jungle Girl retail shop.

As we leave our office, your  professional and charismatic guide will fire up the on board TV and surround system to show you the titles of the myriad of film and television productions filmed on Kauai. As we head to our first stop, we pass the airport. Time for a little humor as we show you several scenes filmed at the airport and a montage of 'not so great' piloting appearing in Kauai made features. We will also pass general aviation. It's at this point we can determine whose private jets are sitting there. Is it John Travolta's private Boeing 707? Jim Carrey's Gulfstream V? Harrison Ford's Gulfstream IV? We never know who is on Kauai.

Stops include:

Ahukini Landing and pier, Kauai's first harbor and docking port.

Hanamaulu Bay. Films made here include Donovan's Reef, Pagan Love Song, To End All Wars, Voodoo Island, Six Days, Seven Nights and more. Watch scenes from some of these features while here. Get out, take pictures!

Wailua Falls. Used in the beginning of every Fantasy Island episode (da plane, da plane!), we travel several miles to reach the stunning vista overlooking this famous falls. In addition to Fantasy Island, it was seen in Kevin Costner's Dragonfly, James Garners Castaway Cowboy, a national Coke commercial and was one of the last stops during CBS's third season of The Amazing Race. We will show you the crazies who plunged 200 feet down a zip line to the pool below.

Kauai cemetery hidden in the lush vegetation. What a beautiful place to spend eternity. On the right, a beautiful view of Mt. Waialeale, the wettest spot on Earth, from a gated off cane road.

One of the first resorts in Hawaii, the Coco Palms reeks of history. Used as a location for over a dozen features, the resort is most famous for its' continuing connection to Elvis. The primary location for his biggest hit, Blue Hawaii, Elvis would come back and visit, or stay there while making other Hawaiian features. He even brought Priscilla and baby Lisa Marie with him on one trip.

We are the only people allowed to tour the grounds of this fascinating place, which is why we include it in both our 4X4 and Land Tours. The Coco Palms has been closed and fenced off since Hurricane Iniki devastated it in 1992.

Other features filmed on the grounds include Pagan Love Song, Miss Sadie Thompson, Fantasy Island, Voodoo Island, South Pacific, Deathmoon and Bird of Paradise with Debra Paget.

Queen's fishing pond. This was featured in two wedding scenes, the first from Blue Hawaii, the second from Fantasy Island. On the right is the wedding chapel originally built for the Rita Hayworth film, Miss Sadie Thompson, then left on the grounds.

We will also cross the highway and look down on the beautiful Wailua River, another very busy movie site and also Kamokila Village, used as the African Village in Outbreak.

Off we go to lunch at Lydgate Beach, a popular Kauai destination. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the surf as we enjoy our deli turkey sandwiches, pasta salad, chips and beverages. Vegetarian meals available with advance notice.  We'll spend about 30 minutes here, so wiggle your toes in the water............OK, are you full and ready to rumble?

It's now time to head into the Wailua Forest, going deep into Kauai's interior to find the magical place Steven Spielberg found to build the massive Jurassic Park Gate.  This part of the tour can get bumpy, so hang on, fasten your seat belt and enjoy the stunning beauty of Kauai's rainforest. We are heading to an area near the base of Mt. Waialeale, the wettest spot on Earth.  After coming down from the gate, IF WE HAVE TIME, we will stop, let you wiggle your toes in the river and continue enjoying the splendor Mother Nature has blessed Kauai with.

The 4x4 off road tour runs in custom built 4x4 vans. we call them the beasts. they do have tv, dvd and surround sound. they are not as fancy as our mini buses, but they get us off the beaten track. they are built higher off the ground so they are a little bit more difficult to get in and out of and you are seated a little bit tighter on the inside. The seats are upholstered in cloth. Customers must be aware that this tour does get very bumpy so it is not recommended for those with bad backs or necks. Please wear closed toed shoes. Mahalo!
