Kauai Backroads Tour
Enjoy an privileged, exciting half day tour, sightseeing on the exclusive lands of the former Grove Farm on the spectacular island of Kauai. Meet Aloha Kauai Tours at the remarkable Kilohana; home of Gaylord’s restaurant and assorted shops. The tour figure-eights around the island in an air conditioned 4-wheel drive van and covers about 33 miles.
First, we head to 1250ft, at the top of Kilohana Crater. You can see the vegetation changing from sugar to guava to pine and bamboo forests (and even wild orchids) as we climb up the sides of the crater. Enjoy a magnificent 360 degree view of the eastern side of Kauai, while looking over the half mile across crater, full of vegetation and wild pigs. If you’re lucky, you may even be able to see a rainbow, due to some passing showers.
Next, we head down the back side of Kilohana, while our knowledgeable tour guides educate the passengers on the formation of the islands, the culture and history of Hawaii, the Polynesian migration, and the agricultural industry. In this exclusive tour, feel free to ask any questions.
One interesting location on the tour is the cane tunnel, which was built after WWII as a shortcut for the sugarcane trucks heading to the Koloa mill and the harbor. Now you can see the corn and coffee that grows where the sugar used to.
Finally, head towards Mahaulepu, where you can take a guided walk or just enjoy the picturesque area of rugged coastline and beautiful beaches. (Don’t forget your camera!) The Kauai Backroads tour will then return to Kilohana through Hawaii’s oldest plantation town, Koloa.
