Saddle Road Explorations
Take an easy walk or moderately strenuous hike in this special area where the road is closed to most rental cars. The "saddle" features terrain such as historic-era lava flows pocketed with ancient forests. These forests are home to numerous native birds. Hikers love these areas and they have special attractions for birders and photographers. Supplied and equipped as are our other adventures.
Naturalist Guide Services at the ratio of one guide per ten hikers.
Hawaiian Walkways received the "Tour Operators of the Year" Award in 2002 and is a charter member of the Hawaii Eco-Tourism Association.
*Please note that the footing on hardened lava is uneven and rocky. Closed shoes are a must. Hikers need to be prepared for cool, perhaps misty weather (with a light jacket/sweatshirt).
