Kona Cloud Forest Botanical Walk
A short distance from busy Kailua-Kona is a lush forest on the slopes of Hulalai, the sleeping volcano. There you will see a private, special sanctuary that nurtures birds, plants and the human spirit with its peaceful isolation. As we move quietly through native forest, and among palms, blossoms, tree ferns, and bamboo from around the world, our senses are soothed by the songs of birds, the cool air, and the shades of green displayed in the forest. Engaging information is presented about the wide-range of geographic context and botanical specimens. Naturalist Guide Services at the ratio of one guide per ten hikers. Many comment on the calm and peaceful feeling of this environment.
Hawaiian Walkways received the "Tour Operators of the Year" Award in 2002 and is a charter member of the Hawaii Eco-Tourism Association.
Forest paths are smoother, mostly on natural surfaces. Hikers need to be prepared for sun (with sunglasses, a sun hat and sunscreen) and for cool, moist air and wind (with a light jacket or sweatshirt).
